My Four-Pane Window Poem — and a New Writing Activity

My latest poetry writing activity is great for writers of all ages and experience levels, from young children to adults. (Even children who don’t yet write can do the exercise as drawing and art.)

After getting hung up on the number of window panes and the direction for reading, I decided my four window panes needed to work in either direction. Then I played with matching the stanzas with regard to syllable count in each line. In the end, I’m most pleased with this draft — even though the earlier drafts seemed okay. Some kind of magic happens during revision.

The poem is below. (While you’re here, be sure to subscribe to my newsletter to receive quarterly updates about new activities! Subscribe here.)
